In Between | Liz Zhang and Natalie Romero

April 2 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The Bridge introduces In Between, a collaboration by Liz Zhang and Natalie Romero. The exhibition opens in the windows of our gallery (209 Monticello Rd.) April 2 5:00 pm and runs through the month.

Both of their artistic practices draw from family stories and community histories. In this collaboration, they create paintings and objects rooted in the past, thinking about what they pass on in the form of storytelling and practices of care, healing, and grounding. Natalie and Liz are the Freeman Artists in Residence for 2020-2021.

Liz Zhang is a visual artist from Yorktown, Virginia. Her practice combines drawing, painting, and printmaking methods to create works on paper and fabric. Her work is characterized by the use of figures to explore empathy, alliance, isolation, and coexistence. Liz graduated in 2019 with a BA in Studio Art from the University of Virginia and was a 2019-2020 Aunspaugh Fellow at UVA.

Natalie Romero is an emerging printmaker, artist, and poet from Houston, Texas. She uses artistic expression to inspire reflection and understanding of our relationship to the stigmas and social norms surrounding politics of body, trauma, responsibility, beauty, community and the environment.
