Rededication Week: Day 5 (Friday)

Join us in celebrating a new chapter for the renown public landmark in the heart of town by rededicating the Community Chalkboard as an inclusive, inviting tribute to creative expression and public engagement. Help us reaffirm this landmark for the next generations of artists and thinkers expressing the ideas shaping a better future for us all. Drop in on events all week long. You are welcome to bring your own seating.

12:00 – 12:30 Common Ground Healing Arts presents Nothing Fancy Flow Yoga

Experienced instructor, Chris Carter will lead you through a straightforward flow practice with plenty of options offered and time for relaxation at the end. You can find her studio class at Common Ground Healing Arts Tuesdays mornings.

2:00 – 5:30 Chalk mural by Feminist Union of Cville Creatives

The Feminist Union of Charlottesville Creatives (FUCC) honors everything artists contribute to the vibrancy of our city with a one-of-a-kind chalk mural.

6:00 – 7:00 Giant Puppet Visit from Nettle Shirts Puppet Works

Night-Walker, a two-story giant puppet controlled by 5 puppeteers, will take a break from their acting career in this fall’s production of “Dawn-Strider, by Jane Yolen” to visit the chalk wall festivities. Come say hello! Contrary to rumor, gazing upon their visage will NOT turn you to stone.

9:00 – 10:30 Cinema Skate Shop and Rasquache Mobile Cinema presents local skateboard videos

Stand-In was released in 2019 at Richmond, VA’s Historic Byrd Theater.  Filming took place between 2016-2019.  The video features full length parts from Shiruna Ntenda, Miles Stokes, Cory Bittle, Blake Scott, Alex Barber, Matthew Barber, Nico Rike, Brock Saunders, Charlie Juers & Andrew Ntenda.  Filmed, edited, and produced by Alex Barber.
Pidgeon Babylon, Revisited, was released in 2008 at The Bridge. A return to a video shot between 2005-2007, Revisited, features additional footage from after the original’s premier. Featuring full parts from Charlottesville locals, Riley Duncan, Caleb Plutzer, August Givens, Joe Lilley, Theo LeBrun, and Matt Pellman. Edited by Caleb Plutzer.
