Join us for our final day celebrating a new chapter for the renown public landmark in the heart of town by rededicating the Community Chalkboard as an inclusive, inviting tribute to creative expression and public engagement. Help us reaffirm this landmark for the next generations of artists and thinkers expressing the ideas shaping a better future for us all. Drop in on events all week long. You are welcome to bring your own seating.

12:00 – 1:00 Live Arts presents “Banned Theatricals — Really?”
Join Live Arts at the Freedom of Speech Chalkboard on the downtown mall from 12pm-1pm on Saturday, September 18, for a few songs and monologues that have been banned in theaters over the years. A sampling from ancient Greece to Grease, from Shakespeare to Legally Blonde! Directed and produced by Bob Chapel and featuring members of Live Arts board, staff and volunteers: Shannon Montague, Ronda Hewitt, Christina Cooper, Korinne Brier, Randy Risher, James Scales, Katie Rogers, Denise Stewart, and Soren Corbett.
2:00 – 7:30 Chalk Mural by Jae Johnson
Check in on Jae Johnson all afternoon as he chalks up the community chalkboard with an original work of art!
4:30 – 5:00 Central Virginia Theater Alliance presents “Sweet Nothings”
A theatrical amuse-bouche based on Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing a teaser for the upcoming Central Virginia Theater Alliance collaborative production and May tour of Much Ado About Nothing by Wm. Shakespeare featuring Balthasar’s Beat Band; Beatrice and Benedick; and the Bumble Boys on Horseback

The C’ville Jazz Congregation, led by saxophonist Greg Weaver, performs at the re-dedication of the Community Chalkboard. This performance is sponsored by The Charlottesville Jazz Society.
