ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — Local artist Molly Bottas began painting the fire hydrant at the Greencroft Club as a part of the arts on fire project.

Once finished, the hydrant will include a lady bug design which was voted on by the neighborhood. Jack Jouett District Supervisor Diantha McKeel, Supervisor says the real beauty of the project is how it unites the community.

“We began this project pre-pandemic and we found that the community really came together in a really special way. I think art does that. People can sort of gather together around art in a very special way and so as we went through the pandemic we found that these art projects, whether it’s murals or the hydrant paintings, really bring the community together,” said McKeel.

This marks the eighth fire hydrant the project has completed and members of the art invitational are looking forward to painting another hydrant within the county soon.
