Face to Face: International info
FACE TO FACE: INTERNATIONAL
Charlottesville’s artists are excited to connect and celebrate with your community through the power of art!
Face To Face: International will connect 8 talented Charlottesville artists with residents of all four of Charlottesville’s Sister Cities, allowing connection through portrait-making. We would like to connect 8 Charlottesville artists each with a resident of one of Charlottesville’s Sister Cities (2 participants from each) to create a portrait for the individual.
For 4 years, The Bridge has used our Face to Face portrait program to connect artists and community members one-on-one, resulting in an ever-growing collection of portraits showcasing a diverse and vibrant Charlottesville through the eyes of its artists. Now, we’re partnering with Speak! Language Center and the Charlottesville Sister Cities Commission to adapt this program for international participation with sister/friendship cities. Cities will each be selecting two participants to be paired with great Charlottesville artists. All portraits and biographical info of participants will be exhibited during February in our Belmont neighborhood art gallery in Charlottesville Virginia prior to being gifted to the sister/friendship city participants.
Poggio a Caiano, Italy.
By November 1st, Sister Cities should nominate 2 individuals to participate. Speak Language Center will provide language interpretation services throughout the process and facilitate video calls between Charlottesville artists and Sister Cities residents. Artists will interview their international participants and collect information about their lives in order to inform the portrait process. Artists will also compile a brief one-page bio of their partner for display alongside the portrait. Finished portraits will hang on prominent display in The Bridge’s Belmont neighborhood art gallery for a month before they are shipped to the Sister Cities participants overseas. All portraits will be photographed prior to shipment for inclusion in online Face to Face materials for posterity and potential future print reproduction.
Sister Cities should email Christina Ball firstname.lastname@example.org with contact information for 2 participants prior to November 1st and begin making plans for introduction to the artist who will create the participants portraits. Participants will be expected to connect via video chat (with use of interpreter if necessary). Within the year, participants will receive their portraits by. mail as a gift from their artist and a gesture of friendship from the Charlottesville community.
