NBC 29: 120 Faces of Activists Mural Installed at Violet Crown
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – A portrait mural of 120 faces of Charlottesville activists is now on display on the side of the Violet Crown Theater.
The project is organized by Inside Out CVille: This Is What Community Looks Like, and Unity Days CVille.
Lisa Draine spearheaded the project in response to what she calls the summer of hate in 2017.
She says two years later a different story is being told, one that fights back against racism, white supremacy, and anti-Semitism and celebrates social justice activists.
“I hope when people see this exhibition they will be inspired and they’ll have a little bit of hope that folks in our community have decided to stand up and make their voice heard,” Draine said.
The activists featured on the wall are historians, lawyers, clergy, educators, students, chef, gardeners, actors, and artists.
