An Exhibition of Local LGBTQ+ Artists

This January, the Bridge Progressive Arts Initiative will mount an exhibition of work by local LGBTQ+ artists from the Charlottesville area. As part of the continued commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising and in dialogue with The Fralin Museum of Art’s exhibition, Otherwise, the exhibition will celebrate the resistance and resilience of the queer community in Charlottesville and highlight the talent of local LGBTQ+ artists. 

If you are an LGBTQ+ identifying artist in the Charlottesville area and would like to have your work considered for this show, please email up to 5 pieces and a short artist statement to with the subject line “Submission – January Show.”  A panel of local artists and members of the LGBTQ+ community will review submissions and curate a show that showcases the diversity of work and artists who create them in our area. Due to limitations of space, not all submissions may be accepted. Pieces may be in any medium including, but not limited to, photography, painting, collage, sculpture, film, ceramics, fashion, fiber art, installation art, poetry, design, and more. The deadline for submissions is December 18th. Acceptance notifications will go out within about a week of the deadline. Pieces must be dropped off at the Bridge’s gallery on Monday January 6th. The exhibition opens on January 10th, 2020 and continues through the month.
