What Does The Bridge Do?

  • Build

In April of 2023 The Bridge opened its new location, The Underground: A Center for Creative Collaboration. It is a 4,300 square foot creative center located at 306 Main Street on Charlottesville’s Historic Downtown Mall. It is a major expansion of the initiatives and resources The Bridge has offered for nearly twenty years. The Underground is a dynamic creative co-working space where creatives can share knowledge and engage in cutting edge creative projects.

  • Support

The Bridge supports creativity and public dialog within and between our communities. In action, this looks like our fiscally sponsored program Unsettling Grounds, where 10 artist are creating augmented reality monuments in Albemarle County’s Broadway Corridor; or our Charlottesville Mural Project where we connect together community members and muralist to create public art. It also includes partnerships like our collaboration with Live Arts to create the WATERWORKS Artist Award.

  • Strengthen

We strengthen our community by offering resources to support events and programing throughout the greater Charlottesville area not just within our center. This is like the Día de los Muertos celebration with the Lau Project, the Sneaker Ball school supply drive, an exhibition of 12-year-old Samari’s artwork, a pop-up skating event with De La Roll, and the creation of safe spaces to create by Black Women Stitch.
